July 2023 saw a team of UK WIS veterans travel over 2250+KM around Portugal. The team met prior to deployment, completing first aid training and lantra 4×4 training at Skipton North Yorkshire. They visited some of the most beautiful and iconic locations Portugal had to offer from Sagres – the most western point of mainland Europe to Nazare – the highest waves in the world, to Torre – the highest point in mainland Portugal 1993M and many other places along the way.

The team covered over 2250km of trails and roads through some of the most diverse terrain possible from flat farmland, beaches, sand dunes, Forests, and mountains. It was an amazing experience staying in some beautiful campsites around the country. The team got to experience some authentic tasty Portuguese bbq, pastries and other foods. Travel around some of the most beautiful countryside and stay at some of the best places Portugal had to offer. We swam in the sea, lakes, and waterfalls, spent time in museums such as castles, forts ,archaeology, geology and even a coffee museum! We visited some amazing viewpoints. The week was very challenging but very rewarding week at the same time, a mix of physically and mentally injured veterans that within a very short period were working as one and opening up, helping each other in weird and wonderful ways! Big shout out to all that make these expeditions happen!
